Nutrition plus low calories? Yes, please! And celery may aid in tackling doggy breath by cleaning his teeth. Of course, it doesn’t replace regular teeth brushing, but it can help!
Nutrients:
- Phytonutrient antioxidants (which may be good for arthritic dog)
- Calcium
- Amino acids
- Folic acid
- Iron
- Phosphorous
- Magnesium
- Sodium
- Potassium
- Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 C, and others
- Fiber (soluble and insoluble)
- Pthalides
Phthalide relaxes the smooth muscles inside blood vessel walls. This enables them to dilate so that blood can flow easier, hence lowering blood pressure. Along with all the high nutritional value, celery is a veritable cocktail of health in a stalk.
Celery can help prevent:

The phthalides may help lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

Preparation:
Wash thoroughly (get rid of those pesky pesticides!)
Remove the leaves and stringy bits (this reduces the chances of choking).
Cut up into small pieces (about 1 – 3 inches).
Cooked:
Steam or boil, then cut up into small pieces.
Serving size:
A few pieces.
Precautions:
Don’t overdo it or you’ll find your pooch using the potty more than necessary. On the plus side, it will flush out toxins. On the con side, your pup needs to tinkle more. Too much celery could also lead to stomach upset and diarrhea, so moderation is key!
